Billings Screen Freeze

When the billing screen is active on a patient record, it freezes everything else, so that you cannot access appointments at the same time.  While this is probably good for some practises, we are often processing billing while patients are checking in or calling to make appointments which means we need to cancel or save half-way through the process.  This is causing issues with billing being missed.  It would be great if an option could be included which would allow access to appointments while billing was still open.

hi HandsOne

Great idea and one we currently find problematic. We'd like this ability also.

This is the same in our practice - I would love it if you were able to actually have 2 versions of FD open on 2 screens at the same time so you could be doing account-type work on one, and dealing with clients with the other - it is very frustrating being half way through a DVA claim amendment and have to close it down because someone rings to make an appointment

The billing and receipt screens use a 'modal' window, which by design means that the user needs to complete or cancel the action before having access to other windows. This is generally standard for actions that need to be completed before moving on to other tasks. We can certainly think about changing this from a modal window but we will need to ensure that this does not raise other issues.

In relation to dual monitor support, in the clinical notes area, we do have support for viewing xrays or images on a secondary screen while writing notes on the primary screen. Perhaps we could introduce an option to have the appointment book operate in a similar fashion.

We specifically design Front Desk so that you can only open one copy of the program at a time in a Windows session. The reason for this is that in the past we have had a few overly active, click happy users who end up with 6 copies of Front Desk open at the same time :) This takes up resources on your computer and can confuse some users. If you use 2 monitors and you feel that you would benefit from running more than one copy of Front Desk at the same time, please contact our helpdesk by opening a support case at and we will assist you to do this. Note this can only be done for users on desktop versions of Microsoft Windows (7, 8, 8.1, 10), not Windows Server versions (2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2).

Seems like a good idea to have the ability to keep billing windows open.
