Casual Appointments (Pre-Defined)

We use Casual Appointments quite regularly for lots of reasons but the main reason is to indicate an available time slot for our practitioners. It would be great if we could create a Pre-Defined Casual Appointment which we could set to our most common text/length and simply right-click to add it. Alternatively, Casual Appointments could come with a Default Option so that they would default to the most common text/length and then could be changed when using it for other reasons.

The casual appointment functionality is designed to be used to indicate a booked time that is not directly related to a patient interaction such as staff meetings or meeting with suppliers etc. To make the appointment you essentially type in the appointment details using free text. There is no link to a patient or integrity check for billing. Another appointment cannot be made at the same time once you have made a casual appointment. I can only assume you are deleting the casual appointment to make a patient appointment in its place.

To indicate available times for practitioners, we strongly recommend you use the appointment rules functionality to designate when a practitioner is available or not available for an appointment. You are able to add text and set the colour to your rule to suggest the type of appointment they are available for if necessary. The appointment is made directly over the rule (if an appointment is allowed) without the need to remove the rule. Appointment rules can also repeat themselves, for example: every Monday afternoon our practitioner is available for new patient appointments.

Please reassess your current process as we cannot fully support the use of casual appointments in this manner.

Hi All, here is a recent article on appointment book rules which we posted last night:

Thanks Steven. Our practitioners have their regular working days and times (and we use Rules to identify these), but then they often add extra available times which change from day to day and week to week - for these we use Casual Appointments. If you have a better solution, I'd love to hear from you. They have been working fine for us, except that we need to add the words Available each time to identify what the Casual Appointment is for. Thanks, Joanna

Thank you for your explanation. Just another thought re casual appointments. It might be handy to allow them to be placed at regular intervals, like an appointment scheduler. I realise we can use the appointment rules for this purpose. However, the advantage of the casual appointment, is that it can be moved up or down in the appointment book easily, unlike a rule.

For instance, we give our staff 'flexi breaks' for each shift, which can be moved up or down in the appointment diary. If I write a regular rule for this, it cannot be moved up or down easily, unlike a casual appointment. However, this needs to be manually entered each day for each practitioner.

If the casual appointment allowed a 'scheduler' option, this would make life easier for us. I am wondering if anyone else would use this feature?
