Would it be possible to add DOB in the patient search section? We often start a patient file via a telephone call & typo's can lead to double entries.

Might showing the DOB next to the patient's name in the Search dialogue box work better? (Maybe? Maybe not? What do you think?)
This would show up when you enter the person's name ... so long as the correct name spelling is entered.

(Obviously, we need to be mindful of patient confidentiality in relation to stating - or rather, not stating - DOBs)

The Date of Birth details are available in the patient search, but you do need to scroll across to see them (or enlarge the window). The columns can be re-arranged temporarily by dragging them but it won't stay that way after closing the window.

It does sound like the ability to search by date of birth isn't quite the solution here, but instead making the DOB clearly displayed next to the name.

Does that sound about right Kelly?

(Thanks Andrew - echoing what I was trying to say).

The reason I requested the search by DOB function was due to the fact that often, particularly over the phone a name may be misheard or given incorrectly. Therefore when searching front desk with incorrect spelling of a name or in fact an incorrect 'legal' name (ie. 'my name is John Smith' when in fact the patients name is Richard Smith but preferred name is John). The correct file cannot be found and is then entered into front desk for a second time. As we have multiple clinic locations and lots of elderly clients, the client may also tell us they have not been to the clinic previously when indeed they have. If we could search by DOB any misspellings/misheard names or incorrect legal names given would be immediately corrected and less occurrences of duplicated files.

I must say I agree with you, this is very frustrating.

I agree. I had asked for that function many months ago. Kelly, your exact reason was the very reason.

I agree.  In hospital Patient Administration Systems this is standard.

With the new tightened Privacy Laws and risk of litigation if you get it wrong, it is increasingly important to minimise human error where possible.

Hi all. To welcome the long weekend, I can confirm we will be adding the ability to search on patient date of birth into a future release of Front Desk. Stay tuned to this post to find out when it is officially implemented.

Hi Neil. This is certainly on our future development list, simply a matter of priority as I'm sure you can understand. Over the last 3 months we've been working on a number of new features and several other improvements to Front Desk which you'll see in the next few weeks :)

Hopefully it's soon, that's the most useful search parameter - the thing most people don't change, whereas they will change their names, phone numbers and addresses. Looking forward to the update!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Search by DOB:.

We notice the new update is out but still no way to search by DOB, have we missed something?

I would greatly love to have this search and also if the DOB could be moved to next to the patient's name when you do do a search on a surname, this would make finding people much simpler. As noted in a previous comment, DOB doesn't change and a lot of practices main identifiers are Name and DOB.

Hello Everyone

This feature is now available in the latest release of Front Desk, version 16.9.5.

It is now also possible to adjust the column order of the patient search permanently, so the Date of Birth can be displayed as one of the first columns if you prefer.

For example, when searching by Surname I can scroll across to the right, locate the Date of Birth column, and click and drag the column to be displayed next to Name.

For more information please see the release announcement below:
