Hi Alan

In Front Desk 16.9.9 we have entirely rewritten the Front Desk Messenger to make it compatible with Front Desk Messenger for iPhone and iPad.

Since receiving your post, we have noticed the default sound setting is not working. A temporary workaround for this is to set a custom sound.

The sound settings for Front Desk Messenger on desktop are controlled by clicking on the spanner icon and selecting the Sounds tab:

Uncheck the Default Message Sound option and select the ... icon to browse for a custom sound. Some alternate sounds can be found in Windows under:  C:\Windows\Media

We will ensure that the default sound in Front Desk Messenger is working correctly in the very next upgrade. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Can't get any sound either.  Also on the old messenger you used to be able to send the sound only.  Now you have to write something.  It was handy to be able to just "ding" a practitioner if they were running really behind rather than have to send an actual message that the patient can see.  Can this be put back on the new messenger?

Hi Celia. We are not aware of a feature that would let you send only a sound in the old messenger. Did you mean just sending an empty message (or space)?

Hi Celia. Thank you for confirming this. When rewriting the new Messenger application, we did not consider that users would send a blank message. We will look at returning this functionality in a future version. Of course, in the meantime, you can send any other character on the keyboard in place of this space :)
