Using the patient list, I would like to select on either appointment or transaction at a 'specific location only'.

Hi Linda. Location is an entity that was introduced into Front Desk to record which computer or group of computers processed a transaction. This becomes important when a client is billed at Location A and pays at Location B. The Location feature allows accurate banking information to be provided for Location B.

We can have a think about adding location as a filter on the Patient List but it must be noted that a Location filter could only be used when a transaction has been recorded. It is unrelated to appointments or default practitioners.

Hi Timothy,

I have reflected on this. We use Location to distinguish between physical locations in Melbourne, which is a group of computers, e.g. Casey or Knox.  When running the patient list, I am looking to see patients 'newly created' in one location only, e.g. Knox.  I could use a reporting group of practitioners to achieve this, but I was looking for a shortcut, hence I was wondering about location. In hindsight, in two physical locations I have practitioners in the one practice group as they provide the same service. If I had a separate practise group for each location, that may be better for me moving forward and reporting separately when needed. Any thoughts?

Hi Linda. It’s difficult to say without reviewing your specific setup and needs, however I can tell you that Practice Groups are generally setup as locations. It’s often the logical choice for both viewing the appointment book and reporting. You can then supplement this with Reporting Groups as needed (eg. by profession) which only need to be setup once.

The ‘Practice Locations’ feature (System Information ► Practice Locations) on the other hand, is only for recording transactions (cash movement) against specific physical locations, so it isn’t really suitable to finding new patients ‘created’ at a physical location.

It sounds like using a separate Practice Group for each location might be the way to go. Practice Groups are quite flexible, so you can change back if you decide it doesn’t work for you. You are welcome to contact our helpdesk so that we can review your requirements in further detail.
