Mailchimp Merge Fields

I am wondering if it is possible to import additional merge fields from Frontdesk to Mailchimp.  For example merge fields such as Last Appointment Date, Next Appointment and Date of Birth would be very useful to have access to in Mailchimp to help us automate emails for certain events and also ensure we are filtering our list to avoid sending emails to long term inactive clients on our Mailing list.  We currently have to manually filter a list in Frontdesk and then upload as a separate list into Mailchimp, but this could be automated in Mailchimp if we had access to more fields.

Hi David

Thank you for your feedback.

We are looking at allowing you to add additional fields in the MailChimp synchronisation in the future. We have been a little bit conservative with what fields are copied up due the sensitivity of patient data.

To be able to use a subset of patients for an email campaign you can use the MailChimp button found on most of the Front Desk reports. For example, to send an email to all users with a birthday in a particular month, choose the Birthday List report, set your required filters and click the MailChimp button. This will create a segment of your patient list within MailChimp.

In the short term, I have had a quick chat with our level 3 technical staff and have been told that we can modify the MailChimp update script to include the DOB if that would help you. Fields like Last Appointment Date & Next Appointment cannot be included at this time as they are calculated fields based on other data and are not fields that are stored in the database.

Please open a support case using the link below if you would like us to add the DOB field in your system.

I'm also very keen to add Last/Next appointment in the merge fields. This way I'd be able to have everything automated. The other company 'Front Desk' in the US is able to do this?
Thank you

Hi Megan. Regarding the fields you've mentioned, it looks like you're tempted to use MailChimp for appointment reminders.

It should be noted that MailChimp is not suitable for time sensitive communication. It is a great tool for marketing campaigns and newsletters, however emails sent through MailChimp may be 'drip-fed' to your patients over several hours or days to avoid them being flagged as spam.

Experience shows that the most reliable way to send appointments reminders is via SMS. Not only do they have a higher delivery rate but they are also more likely to be acknowledged and read by your patient. As we all know, these days people can receive tens of marketing emails every day, and many emails are simply ignored amongst the noise.

We are unaware of any practice management systems in the US called Front Desk?
