Referring Doctor correspondence

Often I receive referrals from a specialist medico who likes me to keep the GP (who is also in my Medical referrers section) in the correspondence loop. Currently I can only store the GP's details in the Notes Section as Referrer 1 (and put letter tags in letters). However under "Referrer 1" I only have access to existing patients names so to enter the GP I have to create a completely new entry for the GP in the Patients file section. There is a tick box for "Professional" in the Notes so if that is ticked why can't we also have access to our existing Medical referrers section details?

hi Anthony

We've been grappling with this one also since we started doing standard letters and have sent through 'idea's' so I'll continue to watch this space and hope for some changes.

thanks

Teresa

I agree with Anthony & Teresa. Insofar as the version of FD we are currently using goes (16.6): it would be lovely to tidy this up such that when a GP refers a client we don't have to enter a GP's address details in to the Patient dataset when they are already in the Medical Referrer dataset.
Instead, it would be great to get rid of the Medical Referrer dataset altogether (it has always been cumbersome and - at least to 16.6 - not been significantly updated for years) and add a simple "Referrer 3" (or "Medical Referrer") field below Referrer 1 & 2 on the Notes tab that refers to them in the Patient dataset whilst recognising they are a Medical Referrer.

Hi all. Thank you for the feedback. Bear in mind that Front Desk has been used by allied health professionals for the last 20 years and there are some "legacy" features in the software that may only be used appropriately by long-term users. However, we do understand that the Referrers area of Front Desk may be utilised differently today, and we will investigate the possibility of cleaning up this area of Front Desk to help make accessing your Medical Referrers database a little easier.

That would be much appreciated Timothy - I have been requesting improvement to the Medical Referrers database since 7th April 2006 and my needs are the same now as they were then. Many thanks, J.

Thanks Tim for your comment. Not sure how long it takes to be a long-term user but I have been using Front Desk for quite a few years now. I have in fact complained about this issue before - and before the Community Support Forum came into being. Back then I was told "I will submit it to the developers" and it seems it then enters a long dark tunnel from which often suggestions do not re-appear. Putting it into the CSForum with a few likes may get more action.

Re it "may only be used appropriately by long-term users". I quote from the Help section:  "Referrer 1 and Referrer 2 are used to record the patients referrals. To enter a referrer select the browse button and search for the referrer from the Search on Patient screen.  Select the Professional box if the referrer is professional, i.e. doctor or another practitioner". I think this area needs to be clarified and hopefully some urgent action.

Timothy - further to my suggestion to "get rid of the Medical Referrer dataset altogether and add a simple "Referrer 3" (or "Medical Referrer") field below Referrer 1 & 2 on the Notes tab that refers to them in the Patient dataset whilst recognising they are a Medical Referrer", this would also help to resolve - or go towards resolving - a number of related threads on this forum, including:

* Medical Organisations
* Access to the Letters tab from GP / Medical Referrer section
* GP referrers per practitioner
* Searching for Referring GP

And maybe:
* Patient Referrals - Would it be possible to define the report to one type of referrer and also to define the Gp's by their practice?
* Report of GP Referrals which lists the Practice that the GP is with

Many thanks for listening. I know you guys are doing your best. Joyaa

Hi,

We also would like some sort of function that allows us to easily list 2 or more Medical Practitioners / Surgeons, without having to add the information to different data bases.  We often need to record both the GP and the specialist, particularly with Workers Comp patients, and at the moment you can only record one on the patients Front Desk file under the Additional Tab - GP/Referring Dr.  We would be delighted with the ability to add more than one GP/Medical Referrer on this tab, as long as it was really easy to see all referrers.

Thanks, Kristina
