Secure messaging (medical objects) integration with front desk

We are implementing a secure messaging program into our practice that will facilitate encryption to allow transfer of referrals and replies and reports back to referrers. The program mostly used in Qld is Medical Objects. This is used by all the main medical practice manager programs that gps are using. If it was available as a plug in with front desk it would allow direct messaging from front desk rather than having to go out of the program and then send. It would also allow direct input into pt files from messages/referrals received. Is this a possibility??

Hi Linda. Medical Object is only one of several secure messaging systems in use around Australia. To implement the common systems would take a significant effort and cost from the Front Desk development fund, which we feel can be put to better use at this stage. This situation will change when a common interface becomes available or when secure messaging becomes more widely used in the allied health space. Though these systems are critical for GP practices, they are less critical in the allied health space at this time and there are alternatives, such as running external applications and interfaces.

We believe Medical Objects has a Microsoft Word integration, which will allow you to send secure messages via Front Desk using our Microsoft Office/Word integration. We recommend contacting Medical Objects for more information on this as a possibility for your practice at this time.

We use Medical Objects with Frontdesk without issue. It will use a Word plugin. Best to get in contact with Medical Objects. Word uses different tags to Frontdesk so you will need to create new templates.

I have just started looking at this software for our practice.  Is it able to automatically import referrals or is this still a manual process for Frontdesk?

Hi Renee. There are several secure messaging providers in Australia. Currently, we are working on a secure messaging integration with HealthLink. When receiving referrals through this integration, they will appear directly inside of Front Desk.

There is currently an initiative by the Australian Digital Health Agency to create a common portal among all the secure messaging vendors so in future you only need to subscribe to one vendor in order to send and receive messages to all health professionals in Australia using the different systems.

Currently, we believe you can send messages into the Medical Objects network using a Microsoft Word plugin supplied by Medical Objects, which can be used in conjunction with the Front Desk standard letter functionality.

You may wish to contact HealthLink to investigate their current interoperability with the other secure messaging vendors.

Hi Timothy, is this Healthlink integration going to be two-way? Not just receiving referrals but will the practitioner be able to send letters securely back to the GP?
Thanks,
Andrea

Hi Andrea. We can confirm that the Healthlink integration will allow for the sending and receiving of secure messages.
