As we have found many users are being forced by Microsoft to upgrade to Windows 10, this article has been written to detail two common issues that may occur and how to resolve them.

1)  Unable to connect to the Front Desk database.

This error can occur if the Microsoft SQL Database is unable to start after upgrading to Windows 10. This is due to a lack of available resources while Windows 10 completes its installation process.

To resolve this issue, simply restart your database computer until all Windows updates have completed.  If you continue receiving this error, please refer to the ‘Unable to connect to the Front Desk database’ section of the after-hours support page (http://www.smartsoft.com.au/afterhours) to manually start the SQL database.

2)  Since upgrading to Windows 10, Front Desk will not close correctly or cannot be re-opened once closed.

If your version of Front Desk is not compatible with Windows 10, you may experience difficultly when opening or closing the software.  Please upgrade your software to Front Desk v16.9.4 or above, which is available on our website.
