Updating GP/Medical referrer

When closing a GP/referrer's details box, the whole GP/referrer search function closes.

Would it be possible to adjust this so it is the same as the patient details box so that when finished with one patient search you can select to either close all together or can perform another search

eg - today I was updating an entire clinic's details. Each time I completed one practitioner's update, I had to then
  • re open the GP/referrer search
  • change the search on field to organisation
  • enter the practice name
  • select the next practitioner
  • update their details then
  • repeat the process all over again for each additional practitioner at that clinic.

This again highlights the cumbersome nature of this particular function with each practitioner being completely separate in FD.

It would be great if organisations could be updated once and then all listings under that organisation are automatically updated or, failing that, having the ability to select organisation details from a drop down menu rather than having to manually update (or in the case of a new practitioner add from scratch) each time.

Couldn't agree more.  This is a very frustrating, long-standing bugbear.

The following is from my three-point email to Support, dated 4th Nov 2012:

1. Please can you add a "search button" to the Medical Referrers dialogue screen. This would save time closing and opening the screen when a group of GPs move address.
2. Please can you add the ability to search on "address", in order to assist in accessing GP/medical referrer records when partial or incorrect addresses are present.
SS's reply: "We have added both of these suggestions to the list of future development items.  Unfortunately there’s not ETA on these though."

3. As per my request of 15/3/2011:  Add a Tick box or Option button to the GP/Medical Referrer box "Add this Referrer to Patient Database?". If this option is chosen an "new patient is created with same name/address/phone details as just added into the GP database. *** Could add an additional button that enables user to choose patient/s that would have this GP as Referrer 1.

Also, in this community - https://community.smartsoft.com.au/smartsoft/topics/medical-organisations

It would be great to have a time-frame for programming that addresses these outstanding issues. Thanks.

Hi Joyaa

We don't see these as outstanding issues (issues get a high priority and are generally fixed as soon as we are made aware of them), but rather as enhancements.

I can confirm that our software development team is, at all times, diligently working on the Front Desk products. At this stage these items have not made it to the top of the development list.

Greetings Gerry,

Irrespective of whether Smartsoft prefer the word "enhancement" to "issue" for these items, the company will recognise that there are a number of overlapping posts in the community about these matters, and that they present problems for a number of users.

Certainly for any new Front Desk user using GP/Medical Referrers, wishing to add 50 or up to several hundred medical refers to the database, the existing set-up is unnecessarily time-consuming.  Other issues (or enhancement requests) exist and are the subject of posts from other users.

Would the company consider upgrading the status of this area from "enhancements" to "very-important-enhancements-even-if-not-quite-at-the level-of-issues"?

Wishing you a good weekend.

Hi Rachel

I can confirm that both of these items (adding a search button to GP / Medical Referrers, and adding the ability to link a referrer to an organisation) are on our development list.
