We are thinking of moving to Tyro in the hope that it will take less time to process claims than does HICAPS. I would like to hear from anyone who has moved from HICAPS to Tyro in the hope that I will learn if one system is noticeably faster than the other. Many thanks, Chris

Chris, we swapped to tyro, but found the communications between the terminal and the computer unreliable, so have switched back to HICAPS. The processing time with the new HICAPS terminals is similar. Also, HICAPS matched the merchant fees Tyro was offering.
Others experience may differ but we just could not get Tyro working reliably

I'd love to know how you got Hicaps to match the fees Tyro were offering.

We have a large transaction volume so HICAPS were happy to match fees we I discussed trailing Tyro

We also switched from TYRO to HICAPS and now will look to swap back to HICAPS with lots of issues which we simply didn't  experience with HICAPS!

I swapped to Healthpoint (and have talked to Tyro), and have swapped back to HICAPS. My problem was not with the processing time at the Frontdesk but the extra hours every week trying to reconcile payments. Hicaps comes in one neat payment to your account, Tyro and Healthpoint don't. You (or your bookeeper) will be spending lots of time trying to find each payment from each health Insurance company (which settle on all different days and times and some settle 3 days together). I found it very frustrating, and time consuming from that point of view. I find the processing time with the new HICAPS terminal very quick.

Hi all. We would like to confirm that Tyro now provides a consolidated payment per practitioner so this should no longer be an issue moving forward. From Smartsoft's perspective in supporting both interfaces, we do find that the Tyro solution is less problematic and more reliable.

Please find below a link to an earlier post regarding Tyro, its features and answers to some commonly asked questions:

We have four Receptionists and run two with Tyro and two with HICAPS.  They both have their pro's and cons.  Tyro is faster and you control everything from your computer.  But if there is ever any issue with the internet, we don't come to a complete standstill, because we still have two HICAPS terminals using the phone line.

The accounting side of Tyro is more time consuming than HICAPS.  HICAPS deposits one sum into your bank for all of the days Health Fund transactions - not so with Tyro.  Up until now, each health fund deposited separately, meaning loads more data entry and reconciling.  (you should see how many pages it has added to our bank statements!!)

Even with the new consolidated payment Tyro is trialling, it is still one payment per practitioner. With a large practice like ours, it still creates more work in the accounts side than HICAPS.

However, the patient billings are much quicker with Tyro, so the extra work in the back-office is worth it when the waiting room is overflowing and the phones don't stop.

we've loved tyro for both the speed and the reliability. Anytime we have had to contact them with a question theie response time on the 'phone is incredibly quick and if they can't help you they will direct you further  - eg, medicare or smartsoft. - but there's no buck passing.
the payments are much better as consolidated payments and the per practioner doesn't worry us. it was certainbly a chore reconciling prior to the consolidated payments.
if the internet is down we can switch to the 3g mode and still take eft payments, tho you can't do health fund claims in this mode. but at least your not stuck, and realistically the interenet is rarely down. we had dealt with healthpointe previously before tyro (who also use healthpointe) and the healthpoint help line was  like wasting a day! tyro seem to have realised this and deal with the issues efficiently and it would sem inhouse because you just ring tyro whether it is a health fund or eft issue.

I have just moved from HICAPS to Tyro. I just wonder if anyone could have ideas about this.

With HICAPS, it automatically print out a daily EFT report, and a HICAPS (or health fund report) from the terminal at the end of the day.

However, with Tyro, it can manually print out a daily EFT report. But unable to print out any Health fund claiming report in any way from the terminal or it's merchant portal.

In our routine, our staff would match the totals of the daily EFT & HICAPS dockets, to the totals of the daily report from the terminal & also against the totals of the Summary from the Frontdesk.

However, with the Tyro, we wouldn't be able to check match any daily report from the Healthpoint/ health fund claiming.

I just wonder if other people here would do a similar check or suggestions? Thanks!

Hi Ki. When using the HICAPS solution, it is possible for a staff member to manually process a claim on the terminal without using Front Desk and therefore cause a discrepancy between the amounts recorded in Front Desk and the amounts recorded on the HICAPS terminal. The end of day HICAPS printout is useful in this scenario to identify the discrepancy.

When using the Tyro solution, a health fund claim can only be submitted through Front Desk and cannot be manually submitted on the Tyro terminal. In this case, there should be no discrepancy between the health fund claim amounts recorded in Front Desk vs those on the Tyro terminal. The Tyro HealthPoint Report in Front Desk will accurately reflect the details of all the claims that have been submitted in your chosen date range.
